The ways of food and wine tourism
The Strade del Vino (The Wine Trails)
Five are the wine trails that wind through Umbria, a land with a long food and wine tradition: the Cantico Wine Trail, the Etruscan-Roman Wine Trail, the Hills of the Trasimeno Wine Trail, along which you can visit the cellars of production of the Umbrian wine excellences surrounded by the splendid panoramas that the territory offers. There are also numerous events and tastings offered by the various Umbrian wine cellars to present their products: one of them is Cantine Aperte (Open Cellars), which takes place at the end of May each year; there are also several autochthonous Umbrian vine varieties, from Sagrantino to Grechetto, and every moment of the year can become an opportunity to discover them.
The Strada dell’Olio (The Oil Trail)
Extra virgin olive oil is another of the many fruits of the Umbrian land: the Strada dell’Olio DOP Umbria runs through the places that are dedicated to the production of the different varieties of oil present in the territory.
Typical products
Numerous are the typical products of the Umbrian territory, starting from the various Slow Food presences, such as the Fagiolina del Lago Trasimeno, or the Norcia Black Truffle, the cheeses and typical butcher shops, and every small area of Umbria is characterised by its own excellences with the peculiarities that distinguish it. The Trasimeno area, where the holiday farm is located, is characterised by an interesting mix of Umbrian and Tuscan traditions, with the possibility of tasting the characteristic fish products of Lake Trasimeno and Lake Chiusi in dishes whose recipes go back to time immemorable, like the Brustico, the Tegamaccio, or the Regina in porchetta.
